This course describes the biological and biomechanical principles of spinal fusion. Through the use of didactic sessions and hands-on application. Also covered are the indications, operative approaches and surgical techniques used in spinal fusion and instrumentation of the cervical and thoracolumbar spine.

Learning Objectives: After completing this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the biologic basis and biomechanics of spine fusion.
  • Describe indications of spinal fusion, instrumentation and arthroplasty.
  • Describe operative approaches and surgical techniques for spinal fusion and instrumentation.
